2-Piece vs 4-Piece Grinders: Which Should You Buy?

Grinders come in 2, 3, and 4-piece configurations, and the piece count changes what the grinder actually does beyond just breaking up flower.

2-Piece Grinders: Simple and Fast

A 2-piece grinder like the Bougie 2-piece Grinder is just a lid with teeth over a base — twist and go, nothing to disassemble or clean out separately. It’s the fastest option but doesn’t separate or collect kief.

4-Piece Grinders: Kief Collection

A 4-piece grinder like the Gold Grinder – 4 piece adds a screen layer and a collection chamber below it, so fine kief falls through and collects separately from your ground flower. Over time that chamber builds up a stash of kief you can sprinkle on top of a bowl or press separately.

What About 3-Piece?

A 3-piece grinder is essentially a 4-piece without the dedicated kief chamber — you get the screen separation but the kief stays mixed with your ground flower in the same compartment instead of falling into its own layer.

Which Should You Buy?

If you don’t care about collecting kief and just want flower ground quickly, go 2-piece. If you smoke regularly enough that kief adds up to something worth using, a 4-piece pays for itself over time.
