What Is Delta-8 THC? Effects, Legality, and How It Differs from Delta-9
Delta-8 THC is a cannabinoid found in trace amounts in hemp, chemically similar to the delta-9 THC in cannabis but generally described by users as producing milder, more manageable effects — less anxiety and fewer racing-thoughts side effects for many people, though individual response varies.
Delta-8 vs. delta-9
The two molecules differ by the position of a single double bond, which is enough to change how they bind to receptors in the body. Delta-9 is the THC most people associate with cannabis; delta-8 is generally reported as producing a lighter, clearer-headed effect at an equivalent dose, though it’s still intoxicating and should be treated with the same caution as any THC product.
Legality is genuinely state-by-state
Delta-8 occupies a legal gray zone: it’s derived from hemp (federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill’s 0.3% delta-9 THC threshold), but a number of states have separately banned or restricted delta-8 specifically. Before ordering, check your own state’s current hemp-derived cannabinoid laws — this is one product category where “legal at the federal level” doesn’t guarantee “legal to ship to your address.”
Buying it from a brand you already trust
If you’re already comfortable with a CBD brand’s quality control, checking whether they carry a delta-8 line is a reasonable way to try it — see our Green Roads CBD product guide.
FAQ
Does Green Roads make a delta-8 product? Yes — Green Roads carries delta-8 alongside its standard CBD lineup. Check current availability and lab results before ordering, since formulations change.
Will delta-8 show up on a drug test? Yes. Standard THC drug tests do not distinguish between delta-8 and delta-9 — both will trigger a positive result.
Is delta-8 stronger or weaker than regular THC? Most users report delta-8 as milder than delta-9 THC at an equivalent dose, but it is still intoxicating. Start with a low dose regardless of prior THC tolerance.
