How to Choose a Dab Rig: Size, Percs, and Joint Type

Dab rigs come in a lot of shapes and price points, and most of the differences that matter aren’t about looks. Here’s what actually changes how a rig performs.

Size: Smaller Clears Easier

A smaller chamber requires less lung force to fully clear the vapor, which is why most experienced dabbers still prefer compact rigs over tall showpieces. Save the large, elaborate pieces for once you already know you enjoy dabbing regularly.

Percolation: Recyclers vs. Simple Chambers

Recycler rigs, like the Dab Rig with Recycler by Diamond, continuously cycle water and vapor through two connected chambers, which cools the hit further and keeps water from splashing up toward your mouth. A simple straight-tube rig skips that complexity in exchange for easier cleaning.

Joint Size and Angle

Most rigs use a 10mm, 14mm, or 18mm joint at either a 45° or 90° angle. This determines which bangers, carb caps, and other accessories will physically fit, so always check the rig’s listed joint size before buying accessories separately.

Banger Material: Quartz vs Titanium

Quartz bangers heat up faster and give a cleaner flavor, while titanium holds heat longer and is more durable if dropped. Most dabbers start with quartz for the better flavor and switch to titanium only if durability becomes a real issue.
